There was no better way to celebrate my birthday than with a three-course meal at Death & Taxes. This Ashley Christensen restaurant has been on my bucket list for a few years now, and between the expertly crafted cocktails, fantastic dishes, and exceptional service, it certainly surpassed my expectations.

Seated at the kitchen counter, we had a great view of the chefs as they worked to prepare us an amazing dinner. No detail went unaddressed. We shared the grilled octopus appetizer and seeded sourdough bread - both delicious - but the highlight of our meal was the Poulet Rouge. The succulent half-chicken was perfectly paired with charred olives, Israeli couscous, apricots, and creamy za’atar yogurt.
We split two seasonal desserts to round out our meal: a caramelized white chocolate panna cotta and a pistachio-apple frangipane tart topped with burnt honey ice cream. Both were great, but the panna cotta. The smooth custard was beautifully complimented by the bitter chocolate crumble, silky blackberry sauce, and crisp graham tuile. Given their quality and popularity, I’d highly recommend a reservation for Death & Taxes. Check out their website for their most up-to-date offerings and to book your table.
